1000 c.e - Castles are fortified structures built during the medieval ages. The first castle was built at around 1000 c.e by Saxon Lords to live safely from bandits and thieves. These Castles were mainly built on a raised mound with a moat around it. Instead of stone it was mainly made of wood and soil.

1070 c.e - Norman castles such as the Tower of London is much improved over the older castles as they used stone. Stone is both non-flambe and is much more stronger. Also instead of a dirt mound for a look out, there were four water towers to scout of threats. These castles were also a show of wealth and were normally guarded by knights and armed peasants.

1270 C.E - These castles were called ‘concentric’ castles. The improvements over the previous castles were an extra outer wall so that it would be significantly more difficult for the attacking force to enter the main section of the castle. As there was more than one wall to breach the attackers were sitting targets for the archers when they attempted to breach the second wall.

1530 C.E – During this era castles were starting to become irrelevant as the discovery of gun powder and the canon made it much easier for the attacking force to breach the castles wall. The castles started to have a lower to make it a harder target for the enemy to attack. These type of castles were called Deal Castles.
